We arrived late in Anchorage after a flight delay of an hour. It was after midnight Alaska time but we made it to Alaska safely. A good night’s sleep at the hotel and a hearty breakfast and we were off to see a little of Anchorage. We took the Anchorage tour that lasted an hour and gave us a little history of the city. I recommend this to start out an Anchorage visit as it gave a good overview and a few tips on things you could see. We learned about the free video at the federal building that plays twice a day on the great earthquake of 1964.
The rest of today was a driving day, the 5 hour drive up to Denali National Park. We stopped along the way and ran into a few construction stops. Ate lunch at a beautiful little pull off where we had views of Denali and were still over 100 miles away from the park. The drive up to Denali had wonderful views along the way. We checked into our lodge, Earthsong Lodge in Healy, AK. It’s just 20 minutes north of the Park entrance. Check out their great little story about the couple and their lodge. We saw moose on the road to our lodge several times while we were driving in and out. I made a dinner reservation at 229 Parks. We had a great dinner in a really authentic ambiance. I even tried the Reindeer Ragu. The meal was excellent.
It was off to bed for a long day of touring the park tomorrow. The greatest part was the drive home at 9:00pm and the sun hadn’t even gone behind the mountains yet. We had an amazing view from our lodge.
